BFFs Angie and Kristan blog about anything, everything, and sometimes even nothing.

Expect the unexpected

by Angie

If there is one thing I’m starting to notice is that you really can’t predict who’s going to “be there” for you. You can discuss plans with one person, but end up actually doing something with another who is much more committed. (I’ve crossed off visiting a natural pool off my list. Sweet.) Or you can feel like crap and get sick, and someone will actually buy you a bunch of medicine and make you tea to help you get better. You may have someone always come and pick you up to go dancing so you don’t have to drive. Or have an old friend that bought you a good meal just because.

There is a fortune from a fortune cookie that I framed on my desk that says:

Stop searching forever, happiness is just next to you.

Sometimes I overlook the kindness that people around me have provided and don’t realize just how much they contribute to my well-being. I suppose this says a lot coming from someone who is easily amused but not easily impressed. I want to thank you and you and you and you.

Time to pay it forward.

There is hope for me yet

by Angie

I’m a subscriber to the Harvard Business Review (HBS) daily management emails, and they just started a new one called the Daily Stat. And today’s stat was about job satisfaction. Seriously, almost half are completely satisfied?

Yes that’s right, 4 out of 10 of people our age are also completely satisfied. Maybe I will like my career. Of course, I have to find one first…

You stayed outside till the morning light

by Kristan

I’m on a huge Taylor Swift kick right now. I was dubious at first, but I LOVE “Tim McGraw” and “Our Song,” and now I can’t stop listening to “The Outside” and this one, “Mary’s Song (My My My)”:

She’s adorable in interviews, clearly a talented lyricist, FIVE FOOT ELEVEN, and just a whole lotta fun.

Don’t tell me my love’s not the one that I want

by Angie

I’m reading late at night and then The Way It Is by Nicole Atkins starts playing on my itunes and I’m mesmorized. I have this song? I don’t even know where it came from! You should take a listen to it. It’s got texture.

I don’t know why though, I also think of Nothing Compares to You by Sinead O’Connor.

Women like looking at a view. Men don’t.

by Angie

Mengfei sent me to the Anthropologie Adorned micro site and it is absolutely beautiful. For some reason I think of The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton, a great read might I add, and A Room with a View by E. M. Forster (where the film adaption had a fantastic cast).

Funny enough, Mitza came into town this evening and we browsed the actual Anthropologie store and the thing I liked were these espresso cups and saucers.
