First rule of sleepovers: No boys allowed!

by Angie

Kim, a ridiculously sweet and cute friend (we help lead Students for a Sustainable Campus in the CEC together), decided to have a girls night sleepover this weekend. I brought cookies from the Cookie Lounge (a slightly higher-priced, requested less buttery versions, of Tiff’s Treat). It was a giggle fest, talking about boys, school, boys, language (Spanish majors), Latin boys, etc. I met some great girls and was very glad I went. You have to wonder why, as we “mature”, why we don’t do simple events like this like when we were younger. It allows for so much more bonding, intimacy among friends and a pressure-free environment (as opposed to people going to clubs, dressing to impress and drinking). If you can tell, this weekend for me was about little, simple, very PG pleasures. Don’t you just miss walking around in the wind? Or just being youthful?

Earlier that morning, I also got to hang with Eunice and other ad grad girlfriends shopping on South Congress and having brunch at South Congress Cafe. Might I add there are some vintage deals at New Bohemia’s sale. The entire day was just so great with this lunch/shopping and the sleepover. As much as I complain about groups of girls being catty and that I can’t stand it, when you have a genuinely sweet group of girls, the dynamic is flat out better and worth it.

Aaahh I wish we could have a sleepover! It was so fun when you were here. Maybe at Xmas…

But yes, I think it is a shame that as we get older we stop doing some of these simple “PG” youthful things. I guess it’s because we develop routines that we’re used to, and reluctant to abandon. For example, I admit that today I even struggled to accept a dinner invitation, because it was out of the ordinary, I’d have to drive, Andy and I wouldn’t get to spend the evening hanging out together… etc. But I did accept! I’m going, because like you, I sometimes crave these kinds of things. (And it’s also a Girls Night dinner.) So I think there’s hope. We just gotta stop being old and lazy!

  2. Good post, I like your writing style! I’ve added http://jbu.phuzzymath.net/ to my feed reader, and will be reading your posts from now on. Just a quick question – did you design your header image yourself, or have it done professionally? If you had it done by a professional, who was it?

Thanks! (Although Angie wrote this post.) We have designed our web graphics in the past, but when we launched JBU we chose to start with a template, called Bluebird, by Randa Clay. Scroll down to the footer at the bottom of any of our pages to click on her URL.

Glad you like our blog, and thanks for commenting!
