Just blame the movies

by Angie

O likes to send me important news articles

Rom-coms have been blamed by relationship experts at Heriot Watt University for promoting unrealistic expectations when it comes to love. They found fans of films such as Runaway Bride and Notting Hill often fail to communicate with their partner. Many held the view if someone is meant to be with you, then they should know what you want without you telling them.

I could have told you, being in advertising, there are tons of theories of how media affects people. Basically it depends. But I think  we can learn from this: communication is important!

Well, I already told you this, but I usually enjoy “rom coms” (though not You’ve Got Mail) and I think I have a 75% realistic, 25% idealistic view of love. I think there’s a LOT more to your view on romance than just watching movies. In fact, I think the biggest factor is what you see in your home and what you’re told in your own home.

Also, who thinks rom coms set up unrealistic expectations, anyway? Oh right! The men who don’t want to live up to them. ;P
