Directions? No problem, I can even do it in Chinese

by Angie

I am always a bit disoriented when I emerge from the subway or out of Port Authority. Luckily I have no problems asking anyone around me where so and so is. Turns out I’m not alone. I’ve already fielded a few questions myself.

Just the other day on my way home, two brothers stopped me because they overheard me speaking Chinese to my mom on the phone. They knew very little English and needed assistance in buying train tickets. I couldn’t figure out their destination, however, I was able to talk their friend on the phone who cleared it up for me: Ithaca. So there I was, super translator in Chinese and English, talking with the information counter and the cashier and back to the brothers. We got everything wrapped up and the brothers to the gate right on time to catch the bus their friend told them to catch.

Feeling accomplished!

Aww, that’s nice! I did that in Spain sometimes (translated English/Spanish) and felt useful too, haha.
