I actually heard this Bust your windows by Jazmine Sullivan on the hip-hop station this morning and I was completely intrigued by the tango-esque melodic intro with that cello. I found the video here but click the title for a better version.
Think of it as R&B’s version of Carrie Underwood’s Before he cheats.
Since randomly discovering her song “Sorry” a couple years ago, Maria Mena has been one of my favorite artists. I’ve loved every single one of her albums — Another Phase, Apparently Unaffected, and White Turns Blue — and her latest, Cause And Effect, is definitely on par. Not my fave (which is White Turns Blue) but solid.
So far “Power Trip Ballad” is my top pick.
Also, how beautiful is the album cover??
I am REALLY digging this song, “Blindsided” by Bon Iver. Since Dooce already made a video to it, with her looovely photos, I figured I’d share that instead of YouTube-ing it this time. Enjoy!

I really like the “stubbly” quality of David Cook’s voice, and frankly, I think his version of “Always Be My Baby” is as good as the original from Mariah Carey, if not better. The song was already my favorite of MC’s, and DC’s version has been a staple of my iTunes playlists ever since he performed it on American Idol.
There are some rockin’ violins missing from the studio version though, so check them out on the shorter live version.
DC’s new single “Light On” is good too.
Sometimes it feels like we’ve run out of luck
When the signal keeps on breaking up
When the wires cross in my brain
You’ll start my heart again
Also, an unimportant but amusing sidenote: DC looks A LOT like my old coworker. Like, a lot a lot. Like, we used to ask my coworker if flying back and forth between Cincy and LA was tiring him out!
When Teardrops on My Guitar came out, I thought the song was just irritating, and still do. So I never gave Taylor Swift a fair chance. Kristan insisted she was great. And now, when I hear Love Story, I have to dance. Not to mention how often I croon White Horse and The Way I Loved You. Thus, I would like to recommend my current favorite, You’re Not Sorry, to all those out there who still need convincing that Fearless is a good album.
Heartbreak is real, but so are fairy tales and happy endings. Funny note, did I mention that Taylor Swift is 19?
Revelry by Kings of Leon is a great ballad. What do y’all think?
just know it was you all along who had a hold of my heart
but the demon and me were the best of friends from the start
so the time we shared it was precious to me
but all the while I was dreaming of revelry
I admit Becky Stark’s voice was a little high for me at first, but there is something magical about You broke my heart by Lavender Diamond. For some reason when I listen to it though, I have an urge to compare it to California Dreamin’ by The Mamas & the Papas and Yael Naim (of New soul fame).
You can download the song here. (Also, listen to My shadow is a Monday, it’s pretty cute.)
Eunice and I did a little shopping at the Domain last night and caught the fireworks show! However, we realized everything was extremely Christmas-themed and how it must be strange if you didn’t celebrate it. So here’s some nice neutral music to welcome in the season: White Winter Hymnal by Fleet Foxes.
Take a gander here for the song
I was following the pack all swallowed in their coats
with scarves of red tied ’round their throats
to keep their little heads from falling in the snow
and I turned ’round and there you go
and, Michael, you would fall
and turn the white snow red as strawberries in the summertime
Check out Britney’s new video for “Circus.” This is the first song I’ve actually liked since she has made her comeback, and the first video in which she even somewhat resembles the amazing dancing Britney of old. Seriously, I’m so happy.
For comparison (and just fun!) here’s my favorite Britney video of all time, “Boys” ft. Pharrell (and Austin Powers, and Jason Priestley??).
PS: It’s like impossible to find videos of Britney that you’re allowed to embed!
I love the version of Can’t let go by Landon Pigg on his newest album Coffee Shop so much more than the mainstream version. Landon Pigg is the guy who sang Falling in love in at a coffeeshop and his song Dressed to kill is also good.
Well you’re the closest thing I have
To bring up in a conversation
About a love that didn’t last
But I could never call you mine
