Apparently Gerald Ceneti predicts it’s not really going to get better until 2012 (end of Obama’s first term). So I’m thinking the job search should be fun….Either way, it looks like some local restaurants are doing their part, via Albert also with Sandra at Barnaby’s.

Completely unrelated but I’m going to make it relate: Over the last few years, my family changed to only drinking soy milk and to not consuming fruit juice. They also started drinking this goopy blended mushroom/fungi. Needless to say, when I come home I have to make a mad dash to the grocery store for regular milk or fresh juice or else I can’t survive. My dad always argues with me because he thinks I’m wasting $4 on Horizon’s 2% organic milk with DHA omega-3.
Mommy: We drank your milk this morning, so if it runs out soon we’ll buy you some more.
Me: What?
Mommy: We ran out of soy milk, and it turns out your milk is really tasty so we had several bowls of cereal.
Dad just smirks and doesn’t say anything. Luckily dad somehow knew my mouth would probably be full of chocolate and bread, so he bought me more milk and OJ.
My best friend Jen is a seasoned veteran when it comes to fireworks because she lives outside city limits where it is legal to set them off, so O and I were extremely giddy to join her for a New Year’s celebration involving none other than explosives. It’s actually quite fun if you ever get a chance to do your own fireworks display (although expensive). Just remember to be safe.
Okay, I want this game. I think it’s such a fun way to play on your touchscreen and still use your brain.
Also featured were these awesome crayola pens. How fun would it be to write with these?

[ Last week's episode: "Spread the holiday cheer" ]
Since leaving for college five years ago, MJ, Claudia, and Sophie have always tried to schedule a sleepover whenever they are all back in town. For this winter holiday, MJ and Claudia are keeping that tradition, but Sophie has a New Year’s Eve party for work that, politically, she must attend.

I am REALLY digging this song, “Blindsided” by Bon Iver. Since Dooce already made a video to it, with her looovely photos, I figured I’d share that instead of YouTube-ing it this time. Enjoy!

Ok, I really want to see this movie:
(PS: Thank you, Overture Films, for allowing me to embed your trailer!)
This was meant to be posted earlier, but better late than never. A little advertising humor. As Kristan said, we’ll be back shortly after the holiday break :)

Ah, the holiday season. A time of joy and laughter and relaxation. Days full of mirth and miracles and magic. A period of reflection, introspection, and appreciation. The most wonderful time of the year!
Until you turn twenty.
After that, it’s the rigors of end-of-term exams, or the hassle of traveling home via crowded airports and interstates, or the stress of finding fabulous gifts for all your family and friends – without zeroing out your bank account. Growing up is the difference between believing in Santa Claus and being Santa Claus.

Okay, I swear I’m not just ripping off Dooce, but we both happen to like Charley Harper a lot! In fact, I liked him before I knew she did. My mom came to visit and we went to the art museum and there was an exhibit of his stuff and I thought he was awesome. Seriously!
ANYWAY, Dooce posted about this new Charley Harper edition of the game Memory, which was my FAVORITE game as a child, and now I’m craving it.

Unfortunately, I have absolutely no need for it, especially since my own beloved version is at home. Maybe I’ll play when I’m back in Houston for the holidays…
My dad took O and I to the Rockets game (vs Denver Nuggets) and it was awesome! Beforehand I was cranky, had a headache and not looking forward to it because I never really got into basketball. But once we were there it was so much fun talking, eating and, of course, cheering. Go T-Mac, Yao and Luis Scola! Kristan, you were right, live basketball is way more fun.

(pre-game, apologies for pictures from the phone)
You know how O treated me to a free meal? So it didn’t hurt that we were in the suite box with free food, drinks and candied apples. Reap the rewards my friends.
