We hope all of you are having a fun and safe holiday!
We’ll be back with more regular posting in January. We may also tweak the redesign in the meantime, so don’t be alarmed if you see minor changes. ;)
My dad took O and I to the Rockets game (vs Denver Nuggets) and it was awesome! Beforehand I was cranky, had a headache and not looking forward to it because I never really got into basketball. But once we were there it was so much fun talking, eating and, of course, cheering. Go T-Mac, Yao and Luis Scola! Kristan, you were right, live basketball is way more fun.

(pre-game, apologies for pictures from the phone)
You know how O treated me to a free meal? So it didn’t hurt that we were in the suite box with free food, drinks and candied apples. Reap the rewards my friends.
Kim, a ridiculously sweet and cute friend (we help lead Students for a Sustainable Campus in the CEC together), decided to have a girls night sleepover this weekend. I brought cookies from the Cookie Lounge (a slightly higher-priced, requested less buttery versions, of Tiff’s Treat). It was a giggle fest, talking about boys, school, boys, language (Spanish majors), Latin boys, etc. I met some great girls and was very glad I went. You have to wonder why, as we “mature”, why we don’t do simple events like this like when we were younger. It allows for so much more bonding, intimacy among friends and a pressure-free environment (as opposed to people going to clubs, dressing to impress and drinking). If you can tell, this weekend for me was about little, simple, very PG pleasures. Don’t you just miss walking around in the wind? Or just being youthful?
Earlier that morning, I also got to hang with Eunice and other ad grad girlfriends shopping on South Congress and having brunch at South Congress Cafe. Might I add there are some vintage deals at New Bohemia’s sale. The entire day was just so great with this lunch/shopping and the sleepover. As much as I complain about groups of girls being catty and that I can’t stand it, when you have a genuinely sweet group of girls, the dynamic is flat out better and worth it.
Following Tolly from That Austin Girl’s recommendation, I had meant to visit The Texas Chair Project at AMOA last weekend. (It’s really a neat idea, the project.) However, with Stephen back in town, I made him do all the artsy fartsy stuff with me this weekend. While I can’t show you the awesome collection of art chairs, I can, however, show you the chair and pillow combo we made. (The Workers photography exhibit is amazing, might I add.)
Of course, it probably can’t beat this chair?! (This was at the exhibit. I wish I could find an image of Family of Chairs that were like wood puzzle pieces.)
Way lame title, however, it was fun just goofing and catching up with Stephen. He’s been gone for over a year in China teaching English as well as frolicking around Southeast Asia. Envious, me? You bet. I’ll just live vicariously through Stephen when he goes to Korea next.
As I commented on the decor8 blog (where I stole this link from), if I were not still a poor twenty-something struggling writer, I would SO buy these prints to decorate my home!
A few of my faves from IS Photography:
Lady Gaga certainly has become quite popular these days, and she’s got some whacked out style (I guess you could say the same for M.I.A.). Anyhow, I always hear this song blasted during my workout class and I finally figured out it’s Poker Face. (Yep, embedding disabled.) She is saying, “can’t read my poker face.”
Man, now I want to go dancing again–and did we dance up a storm for Halloween. KC loves Pangaea, so we were back there again and it was tons of fun.

I’ve been noshing on bread for the past week because of my limited time (and especially energy) to cook. With my desperate cry for food, unfortunately there were no takers. Looks like I had to take things into my own hands. Actually, I made plans for Austin Restaurant Week a month ago for Aquarelle with Xilu and Eunice, and it was delish! We are tempted to return and pay full price after having the scallops and the beet mousse (this was quite amazing in flavor). Not to mention it’s located in the most adorable yellow house whose interior has been remodeled quite beautifully.

It is a little dim, hence why my photos are grainy but what’s that I see? Red? Green? Yellow? Ohmigosh it’s color in my food! Featured are the red snapper and the scallops. While we’ve established white ain’t a color, the profiteroles au chocolat with vanilla ice cream can slide.
Of course this meal cost a little something something, but hey it was a good time with good friends. But I’m totally still open to be wined and dined…
That line is totally stolen from the song by Soul Kid #1 which I’ve totally jammed to, and I thought, this is definitely the most fitting line to describe my experience in LA this past weekend. There was little sleep and a lot of play.
Good: Palihouse Holloway, The Hall, UCLA, Ding Tai Fung, Shareen Vintage, Venice Beach Abbott-McKinney street, Hollywood stars
Not as good: The Kress wait, Venice Beach actual beach, traffic, Hollywood ghetto
More pics after the jump.
