BFFs Angie and Kristan blog about anything, everything, and sometimes even nothing.

Ba-ROCK Obama

by Kristan

NOTE: THIS IS ABOUT DESIGN, NOT POLITICS.

I was at Jean-Robert’s Lavomatic Cafe a couple weekends ago when I noticed this awesome poster on the billboard behind our table. I love love LOVE the aesthetics. Simple typography, iconic image, relevant and appealing color palette. Oh, and cute tagline.

Apparently Natalie Portman’s was to speak in support of him too? To be honest, that would have enticed me to go more than the event itself…

I did double major in right and left brain…

by Angie

I really love grad school, I really do, but sometimes I get a little bored. This is because you become focused on a specific topic that you (hopefully) are passionate about that your brain doesn’t always get to explore other passions. (Unlike in undergrad where you could double major in everything.) I really don’t feel that people function this way, after all, we are a generation of multi-taskers (spoiler for Kristan’s next JBU column). I guess this is also why we have hobbies.

So while I’m multi-tasking by trying to “be smart” with email conversations on Obama’s economic policy and HBS articles with Kristan AND trying to understand parallel programming (the latter is not for me I assure you), I’m having email conversations like this one.

Angie: I wanted that yellow dress. It’s already sold out, and I just got this email.
O: It’s okay, you can’t buy stuff anyone so I delayed the email.
Angie: Meany, the dress is only 60$.
O: Yeah 60$ more in your wallet.
Angie: Yeah well I’m 60$ less pretty!
O: Not possible.
Angie: You raise a valid point. Touche.

Don’t judge. It’s my hobby.

Instead I looked like this

by Angie

Jenn and I had a lovely time catching up at Jo’s Coffee just chatting away on 2nd Street for the lamest event ever, but we still managed to have fun. (My only stipulation was that we make it back in time so I could see Barack Obama speak, where I subsequently made another friend wait for me to finish watching the speech before I went out again. Completely on a side note, are you surprised by McCain’s pick Sarah Palin?) Anyhow I busted out my awesome orchid purple shorts (image included just so you can see the color) from French Connection yesterday, although I still haven’t figured out how I should wear them.

From our conversation, I started thinking about the friends I’ve made since freshman year, how things have changed since then and who I still even keep in touch with.

So I have this thing about leaping when excited

by Angie

I caught a rerun of the last episode of this first season of Gossip Girl (my guilty pleasure, and I know you are waiting for the MotherChucker moment), and O originally pointed it out, but I finally saw that the wedding was filmed at Cooper Hewitt. If you watch the scene where Nate punches out his dad and makes amends with Chuck, my beloved doors make a cameo! These doors are across the street from Cooper Hewitt, and here they are pictured with me.

Since we’re on the topic of watching TV, is it strange that I’m excited about Ariel’s Beginning on DVD that comes out today. I really love Disney’s The Little Mermaid, although TLM 2 was eh. Don’t worry I am tuning in to the Democratic National Convention coverage after the reruns. Did you get to see Michelle Obama speak?

Tidbits here and there

by Angie

I thought I’d share some news about Wall Arch collapsing earlier this month at Arches National Park, one of my favorite parks, in case you didn’t know.

I’m looking at this issue of Time magazine, and I’m thinking, you know when I look at Obama, I don’t think he is a black man, I just see a man for change. But when I saw Hilary, I did see a woman. Is this an issue of identity? All in all I don’t see that race or gender necessarily makes a difference in a leader. And I don’t know about you, but I’ve been googling Joe Biden like crazy.

Other than that, today is the closing ceremony of the Olympics, and while it’s been exciting to watch, I’m sure we all need to get our lives back from the TV.

I’m, of course, working with O to get my MacBook Pro up in order before I head up for school.
